This is the first question big J asked me when I told him I wasn’t going to give him money, but that he had to create value / to earn CASH. What would I do?
So start by asking what. A few whats, actually –
What interests you? What do you love?
–> Make a list of any and all topics / thoughts / words that interest you or that you’d say you “love”.
What problems do people have that your “interest” or “love” solves?
–> Make a list of all the problems / questions you can think of.
What could you do every day, all day, for the next 10 years?
–> Right that may be hard. Be honest. Put a check mark next to any answer in Question 1 that you could do every day.
So today, do that. Answer those 3 “what” questions.
And, if you still don’t know what to do, and you are under 30, then, just do something. Get experience doing things. Anything. Paid or unpaid. I worked with a gardener, worked delivering and unpacking flat-packed kitchens, assisted a builder (slave work) refurbing an entire house, drove a mail truck, sorted mail, served pizza, was a youth worker, served drinks, was an Abercrombie brand rep, social worker, speaker, teacher, basketball coach, pastor, dishwasher, lawn mower, babysitter etc.
Discovering what you are good at, not good at, love, hate, passionate about, couldn’t give a bleep about, helps to formulate an answer to Question 1 … and that happens in the cauldron of life.
We are going to come back to “what” in more depth later.
